Jake & Kayla’s September Wedding at Inn at West Settlement in Roxbury, NY

Jake and Kayla’s September wedding at Inn at West Settlement in Roxbury, NY was a full weekend that leaned into everything that makes a Catskills wedding stand out. Located in the Catskills region of the Hudson Valley, Inn at West Settlement is one of the most sought-after Catskills wedding venues for couples looking for mountain views, open space, and a setting that feels completely removed from anything busy or overbuilt. As a Hudson Valley wedding photographer, this is the kind of venue that consistently delivers strong, natural images without forcing anything. The landscape does the work. The energy fills in the rest.

From the rehearsal dinner through the final songs, wedding photography at Inn at West Settlement gives you range without needing to leave the property. The fields, the barn, and the mountain backdrop all work together, which makes it one of the most complete Catskills wedding venues to photograph.

About Inn at West Settlement Wedding Photography | Catskills Wedding Venue Insights

Inn at West Settlement is built for photography. Everything is close, everything has a purpose, and nothing feels forced.

The outdoor ceremony space faces directly toward the Catskill Mountains. For a September wedding with a 5pm ceremony, the light starts to soften right when you need it. You get dimension across the mountains without harsh shadows, and skin tones stay clean. It’s one of the best ceremony lighting setups you’ll find in the Hudson Valley.

Portraits move fast here because of how the property is laid out. Open fields give you scale. Wildflower gardens add texture and color. The barn gives you contrast and structure. You can shift between all three in minutes, which keeps the day moving and avoids pulling couples away from their guests for long stretches.

If weather becomes a factor, the barn works as a strong backup. It still feels consistent with the venue and doesn’t lose the character of the day.

Getting Ready at Inn at West Settlement Wedding | Catskills Wedding Morning

The weekend started the night before with a rehearsal dinner on the property. It set the tone early. People were already settled in, already connected, and that carried straight into the wedding day.

The guys got ready in the farmhouse. It was calm, simple, and easy. No overproduction. Just a group of friends getting ready without pressure.

Kayla got ready at a nearby Airbnb with her bridesmaids, her sister, and her mom. The energy was completely different. Louder, more movement, more anticipation. It felt full right from the start.

Bridesmaids First Look and Morning Energy | Inn at West Settlement Wedding Photos

The first real shift of the day came with Kayla’s first look with her bridesmaids. Immediate reactions. No buildup needed. It hit right away.

Moments with her mom and sister followed, and those slowed things down just enough before everything transitioned toward the ceremony. These parts of the day are often where the most honest reactions happen, and this one didn’t miss.

There was no first look with Jake. That decision carried weight later.

Outdoor Ceremony with Catskill Mountain Views | Inn at West Settlement Wedding Ceremony

Guests gathered outside with the Catskill Mountains stretching wide behind the ceremony space. This is where Inn at West Settlement separates itself from other Hudson Valley wedding venues.

When Kayla came down the aisle, everything locked in. Jake’s reaction said everything without needing anything added. The absence of a first look made this moment land harder.

The ceremony felt grounded and emotional without feeling overdone. The setting did the work. The people filled it in.

Wedding Portraits Across the Property | Inn at West Settlement Wedding Photography

After the ceremony, we moved straight into portraits around the property. No long gaps. No over-scheduling. Just using what was already there.

The fields opened everything up and gave us space. The wildflower gardens added depth and texture. The barn brought in a completely different tone with darker, more structured frames.

Everything was within walking distance, which kept it relaxed. No rushing. No pulling the couple away for too long. Just a natural flow that let the moments build instead of interrupting them.

Inn at West Settlement Wedding Photos | Best Portrait Locations in the Catskills

Inn at West Settlement is one of the strongest venues in the Catskills for wedding photos because of how much variety exists within a single property.

The open fields give you wide, expansive backdrops with mountain views. The wildflower gardens add color and texture that change throughout the season. The barn brings in a completely different tone, with darker, more structured compositions that balance out the outdoor images.

What makes this venue stand out is how quickly you can move between all of these locations. You don’t lose time, and you don’t lose momentum. That allows couples to stay present in their day while still getting a full, diverse gallery.

For couples prioritizing natural, candid photography with strong environmental context, Inn at West Settlement delivers one of the most complete setups in the Hudson Valley.

This is a big reason why Inn at West Settlement continues to stand out compared to other Hudson Valley wedding venues.

Cocktail Hour in the Fields | Catskills Wedding at Inn at West Settlement

Cocktail hour stayed outside and kept the energy moving. Guests spread out across the property, drinks in hand, fully engaged.

This is where you see the advantage of a venue like this. People aren’t confined to one space. They move, they interact, and it keeps the momentum of the day going without any drop-off.

Barn Reception Energy and Packed Dance Floor | Inn at West Settlement Wedding Reception

Once the reception started inside the barn, everything shifted again.

The space filled quickly, and it didn’t take long for the dance floor to open. With both a DJ and live entertainment from Just the Melody, there was no downtime. No lull between moments. Just consistent movement from start to finish.

The speeches brought everything back in for a bit. A mix of humor and real emotion that reflected how close their families and friends were. You could feel it in the room.

Then it opened back up, and it stayed that way. Packed dance floor. People fully in it. No one holding back. The kind of night that keeps going without anyone checking the time.

Why This Wedding Worked So Well at Inn at West Settlement

This wedding worked because everything aligned with how the venue is meant to function.

The 5pm ceremony in September gave us ideal light without compressing the timeline. It allowed for portraits right after the ceremony while conditions were still strong.

Skipping the first look added real weight to the ceremony, especially in a setting where the backdrop already carries so much presence.

The layout of Inn at West Settlement makes transitions seamless. Guests don’t need to move far. The energy doesn’t drop between parts of the day.

Portrait locations are close, varied, and efficient. That matters more than people think.

And with around 150 guests, the barn felt full in the right way. Enough energy to carry the night without feeling overcrowded.

Planning a Wedding at Inn at West Settlement | Catskills Wedding Venue Guide

If you're planning a wedding at Inn at West Settlement, this venue works especially well for couples planning a full weekend wedding experience in the Catskills. With everything on-site or nearby, guests can settle in and stay present without the need for complicated logistics.

Focus on ceremony timing. Late afternoon into early evening works best to take advantage of the Catskills light.

Build in space after the ceremony for portraits. You don’t need much time, but you want enough to move through the different areas of the property.

Stay on-site for photos. Between the fields, gardens, and barn, you already have everything you need.
